In 2008 I was approached by MMU's athletic union to
design their 2009 Calendar. The photographs were taken on a green backdrop by a student photographer.
I worked closely with MMU's executive sports officer to edit the pictures and design the calendar. She wanted the Calendar to be A3 and 14 leaves. Including a full page for each month, each featuring a different sports team, and a front and back cover. The style I used was influenced by research. this included talking to students and my own previous experience of life as a student. I chose to use polaroid pictures, stickies and blue tac set on a cork notice board as the main theme for the front cover. The cover was a quirky idea of mine using male and female symbols/sillouttes. As it was a semi naked calendar I wanted to add a little humour by using sports balls to cover the more personal areas judging from the feed back I got from the students they loved the final effect. My clients were more than happy with the end product, what's more we all had great fun making it, the uni made plenty of money from calendar sales plus had a wicked night at the calendar launch party.
CALENDAR BRIEF
To produce the calendar backdrop for the photographs, layout style, design the theme and brand the product in a fun and professional way. Ensuring that quality was maintained from front to back. I acted as Art Director from start to finish.
